We hear so much about the “social contract” these days; social media is oft ablaze with commentators bemoaning the loss of this shared, implicit cooperation popularized by the likes of Locke and Rousseau. An ocean of virtual ink has been spilled writing the dirge of the “high trust society”. To a certain extent, the concern is warranted; people old enough to be nostalgic will tell you about leaving the doors to their cars and homes unlocked in their childhood when they were able to wander without concern from an overly-nervous neighbor. It is true, a certain erosion has begun. 

Bastions remain, though.
